I honestly bet it will buff out...A-10s are hilariously durable...

Well they are designed to be able to land with the gear up...

Designed is a slippery term. Every jet is designed around survivability for a gear up landing to some extreme. Some more than others.....

Yeah, but the A-10 is designed for it to an extreme degree, because it was expected that it would sustain combat damage much more often than other aircraft. The wheels are purposefully exposed when retracted, so they can be used as wheels even when the gear is up:

IIRC, various parts of the aircraft are also reinforced to function as landing skids if needed.

Glad the pilot was ok. Hopefully not another airframe loss....we’re not making any more of these!

Sort of like a 1-ton pickup with a big block engine and an RV cam.

The Douglas TBD Devastator had the same feature.

Pick it up, pull the wheels to, put it back on the flight line.

I just think about how many missiles and bombs and shit are hanging on the bottom of those wings normally. Would they jettison those if they were present before attempting the landing? Seems like the smart thing to do.

Yerp. Boeing has a contract through 2030 to produce replacement wings for some ‘H ogs, but there’s still plenty at the Boneyard .

Used to drive past the boneyard all the time on my way to go shooting in the desert. Kolb Rd would take you in between the boneyard an d the scrapyard.

I think they would do that had the plane been over ocean. Unfortunately this is in Atlanta if I remember correctly, So where could you jettison them over Georgia?

Ev idently there’s a town named Quitman in GA. Seems appropriate.
